In the first half of the nineteenth century, cast-iron jewellery represented the pinnacle of art casting in iron. In Bohemia, the foundry in Komárov specialised in jewellery, modelling its work on the products made in Berlin and Gliwice (Gleiwitz). Besides copying foreign patterns, the Komárov foundry created designs in collaboration with well-known goldsmiths in Prague. The production of cast-iron jewellery was also associated with Europe’s economic situation after the Napoleonic wars, when there was a shortage of precious metals for jewellery production.
